Welcome to Great Genealogy

Family history research should be more than just compiling names and dates into a family tree. To really do great genealogy we should be trying to see our ancestors as real flesh and blood people. To do that we must go beyond the born -> married -> died of a typical family tree chart.

There are so many questions we can be asking about those who came before us. Where did they come from, where did they go, how did they get there. What kind of people were they and what were the events in their lives that made them who they were. What are their stories.

Finding these kinds of answers is not easy and it can be frustrating when you reach the inevitable dead ends. But, when you "put the flesh on the bones" and really get to know an ancestor it is hugely rewarding experience.

Through this blog I plan to shares tips and methods that will make us all better family historians. Whether you are just beginning your genealogical research or you have been working at it for years, I hope you will find ideas here that will make your search more productive, more accurate and more fun.

Happy hunting!
